Now we come to the
west porch that used to hold the freezer, refrigerator, washing machine,
dryer, and cooking and caning utensils.
I purpose, after
we have torn up the floor and replace the same, raising the flooring
and reestablishing a foundation, a complete overhaul of this area.
I would suggest
it become a small bedroom for myself for the summer as it is cool until
the later part of the day. I would put an armoire in for a clothes closet
(where the side-by-side freezer was) and a computer table with computers
networked to it. I would put under the windows where the washer and
dryer were a futon or bed and against the wall I would have some bookcases.
The dryer is still in what used to be the entryway for the winter but
that could change and if the dryer is moved I might put the small computer
area there, or a bureau, or the armoire and another exit where the armoire
was.
The pantry cupboard
would hold some books and still a few other items and the two drawers
would be re-done and excess paint removed so they would slide again
and perhaps clothing placed in them.
I can almost hear
the birds at night and feel the breeze coming in across that window,
through the kitchen and out the eastern porch at night.
We might pipe hot
air heating to this area when the flooring is raised and this could
be a bedroom that might be able to be used in the winter as well. The
mound of dirt must go out the window and perhaps a stone wall erected
so that the area does not channel water into the house as it has done
before.
