Proposed Knight Homestead Heating Changes
East Side First Floor (Harold's Side) “The Little Red House”

This plan to the right is the most complex as it shows the proposed usage of both hot water heat and hot air heating. The hot water heating would be able to be drained so that the home could be left unheated in the fall or spring and then reheated upon return. Please note the additional windows in the Bedroom/Chapel and the wall put in Harold’s Living room, returning the supporting wall tot he upper story and insulating from the elements. We would have windows in that wall and maybe a couch there below the windows. This will make more than enough spaceas most times there will only be one or two people there.

The thin orange lines show the, now reduced, proposed hot water heating for usage when there all the time AND hot air heating shown by larger and darker organge dots with a solid line for where the registers would be.

Due to the need to replace and raise the floors for the poarches and the kitchen, this now will make some space to run hot-air ductwork. Also, with improvements tody, the ductwork can be run with very well insulated flexable plenum so that they can go almost anywhere. There seems to be a need to redo almost all the heating and cooling to the house as well as the electric service.

Charlie is thinking of digging dirt out from under the poarches and kitchen and also under the living room and bedroom and putting it in the hollow area about 25 feet from the east side of the east poarch. This side of the house was insulated back in the 1980's so there seems to be a good deal of hope here.

By using downstairs for living in the winter, the need for heating upstairs would be reduced greatly.

Continue to look back here for various developments. By the year 2003 you should be able to click on a room and get another page that showes the progress on that area of the house in some detail.

Also not the future patios and also maybe another exit to the one on the western side with roof on the northern side.

Prayers and help are appreciated.
